The very first mission team provided Bibles to the church and schools; blankets to Kaaga School for the Blind and the orphanage.
Work was completed on the Gaitu Church interior, finishing and installed electricity and water. Medical clinic for the children in Kaaga School for the Blind.
An exploratory team of four people was sent to Gaitu to explore and survey the needs of the village. The team brought back a report that a medical clinic was needed.
Supplied textbooks. sample exams and English New Testament Bibles to students. The team saw the need for clean water for the children and money was to be raised when God provided a young man, Steve Rife, who rode a bicycle from San Diego, CA to Maine and raised $75,000 that paid for well drilling, completed 2014.
Established a library of 476 books at primary school; built 15 new desks for seven classes at standard school; provided money for electrical installation at primary; distributed 200 Kimeru New Testament digital Solar Bibles for those who cannot read yet; and drilled a borehole that provides 17,000 gallons of water/hr.
Painted all Gaitu Primary School classrooms; built library reading tables and added more books; provided soccer and netball equipment for Gaukene Mixed High School; met with Deputy Governor and requested permission from County medical office to operate the clinic at the Church.
A temporary Medical Clinic was opened at MCK Gaitu Methodist Church on March 16, 2016. At present, the Meru County government is supporting daily functionalities of the clinic and medicine is supplied quarterly to the clinic. Construction of a septic system to serve schools, church, and clinic was completed.
200 new school backpacks were given to students and teachers of Gaukine Mixed High School and 5th grade in Gaitu Primary School; provided civic education “why vote?” to the community; future planning meetings with Primary School Board, Gaukine High School, Community Projects committee, and Nairobi residents from Gaitu.
Provided 600 pairs of shoes to all students, teachers and staff of Gaitu Primary School, Gaukene Mixed High School and the Academy; bought textbooks for all courses for grades 4-8; painted all the Primary School classrooms; set up a basketball court and equipment.
Due to COVID-19, no Mission Team was sent to Kenya. But work continued with the support of Connie Cox, who rallied her friends to raise money for the clinic after she was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Connie donated much of the money for several projects, but God decided to take Connie home in September 2021.
In summer, Joyce Nki went to Kenya to oversee several projects and how the land could be put to use. While there, the fence was completed and the well was equipped with solar/electrical pump, a tower tank was erected and farming started. The project was registered with Kenya Ministry of Interior as a nonprofit.
Joyce Nki again went back during the summer months to Kenya and met with Meru County Health Department to work on the approval for the building plan. The plan of the Diagnostic Medical Facility was approved by the county government.
Our Challenge NOW is to raise funds to fulfill the DREAM and continue the MOTIVATION to build a medical facility that will service the people of the village of Gaitu who are dying from many preventive illnesses.
During each of the mission trips, a 3-day medical camp was provided to the village people. An average of 1,200 people received medical services (2004, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019).
